Poshan Pakhwada – 8 April, 2025 to 23 April, 2025
Poshan Pakhwada is an annual nationwide Nutrition Awareness Campaign in India organized by Ministry of Women and Child Development under Poshan Abhiyaan. 7 Edition of PP was observed from 8 April to 23 April. The focus was outcome-based interventions to enhance nutritional wellbeing, awareness drives on balanced diets. In collaboration with NSS, the department organized a Nutrition Quiz and a Guest Lecture aimed at spreading awareness about health, nutrition and the importance of balanced lifestyle. A Guest Lecture on the topic Nutrition and Wellness: A way to Healthy Living was delivered by Ms Aatma Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science, Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women, Jalandhar.
International Workshop on Journey to become an Entrepreneur -18 March 2025
To enhance culinary skills and promote creative baking among students, One day Baking Workshop was organized on 18 March. The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the basics of baking and introduction to baking essentials including measuring techniques, oven usage which was followed by hands on session in which participants from different streams prepared cakes under the expert guidance. The session was conducted by Mrs. Saumya Malhotra, Founder of Blissful Caketales Kitchener Canada, a professional baker with years of culinary expertise.
Inter Class Cooking Competition – 13 March 2025
To celebrate the vibrant festival of Holi, Inter Class Cooking Competition was organized. The event aimed to promote creativity, teamwork, culinary skills among students while also celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Indian festivals. Students from different classes participated with great enthusiasm and festive spirit. The competition featured traditional Holi delicacies like Gujia, Dahi Bhalla, Malpua and Thandai along with creative fusion dishes.
Under the guidance of IIC, as part of the Earn While You Learn initiative, students set up a Golgappa Stall on Campus to celebrate festival of Holi. This initiative offered students a chance to gain real world business experience but also provided fellow students and staff with a hygienic and flavourful snack option. It contributed to empowering self reliance and promoting a culture of learning beyond the classroom.
International Webinar on "Innovating Wellness: Entrepreneurship in Emerging Health and Food Trends" - 5th March, 2025
An International Webinar on "Innovating Wellness: Entrepreneurship in Emerging Health and Food Trends" was organized by the Department of Home Science in collaboration with the IIC & P.G. Department of Cosmetology at Prem Chand Markanda S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar on 5th March 2025 at 10:00 AM. The webinar aimed to explore innovative approaches in health, nutrition, and wellness, while highlighting entrepreneurial opportunities in emerging food and health trends. It featured two distinguished speakers: Ms. Kirandeep Kaur, a Child Youth Care Worker from Canada, who spoke on global wellness trends and youth health, and Ms. Taniya Singh, Assistant Manager at Domino’s (Canada), who discussed innovation in the evolving food industry. The session emphasized integrating wellness into entrepreneurship with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and consumer needs. Participants gained practical strategies for transforming ideas into viable business models, with insights into plant-based nutrition, functional foods, mental wellness products, and personalized nutrition. The webinar saw enthusiastic participation from students and faculty, encouraging a forward-thinking mindset in health and food entrepreneurship.
Workshop on Candle Making – 21 February 2025
A one day workshop on candle making was organised to introduce participants to the art of making candles, promote creativity and encourage self employment skills.
Basant Celebrations – 1 February 2025
The vibrant festival of Basant Panchmi was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Basant Panchmi which marks the beginning of spring is especially dedicated to Maa Saraswati. Faculty and Students offered prayers to seek blessings for wisdom and academic success.
Young Entrepreneurs Exhibition – 21 to 22 January 2025
The Department of Home Science, Fashion Designing and Cosmetology, under the Institute’s Innovation Cell of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar organized and Exhibition by Young Entrepreneurs : Crafting Success in Food. The event aimed at providing a platform for students to showcase their entrepreneurial talents and culinary skills integrated with business ideas in food. Today’s trending street food was cooked and presented by the students in different stalls.
Exhibition cum Sale of Aroma Candles – 29 October 2024
Under the guidance of IIC and incubation cell, on the occasion of Diwali an exhibition cum sale of aroma candles with the objective of promoting craftmanship and encouraging entrepreneurship skills among participants. Students showcased their innovative candle designs, combining artistic flair with soothing aromatic blends.
Golden Jubilee Celebrations – 23 October 2024
To commemorate the glorious completion of 50 years of excellence, a grand Golden Jubilee celebration was organized. The event aimed to honour the legacy of the past and celebrate the present and inspire future endeavours. The celebration began with a warm welcome by Honourable Governor of Punjab, Shri Gulab Chand Thakur who lit the ceremonial lamp. An exhibition on Aroma Candle Making was held as a part of the event. The exhibition aimed to promote wellness, eco-friendly craftmanship through beautifully crafted scented candles. The display stall was accompanied by details of ingredients, their benefits in candle making process.
Poshan Maah 2024
As part of the nationwide Poshan Maah 2024 celebration, a series of engaging activities were organized to promote awareness about nutrition, healthy eating habits, and overall wellness. These initiatives aimed to encourage community participation, especially among women and children, highlighting the importance of balanced diets, hygiene, and lifestyle choices for a healthier future.
• Fitness Intervention Programme – 12 September 2024
To promote physical health and encourage an active lifestyle among students a Fitness Intervention Programme was conducted in collaboration with NSS to celebrate Poshan Maah. Students participated in a series of physical fitness activities as warm up and stretching exercises including yoga and aerobic workouts.
• Guest Lecture on Importance of Awareness of Anaemia – 13 September 2024
A guest lecture by Dr. Saloni Bansal, Paediatrician, Pal Hospital was organized to celebrate Poshan Maah on Importance of Awareness of Anaemia especially among adolescent women. She discussed its types, causes such as vitamins, blood loss, chronic diseases, inherited disorders, symptoms of anaemia such as pale skin, fatigue or weakness, shortness of breath, cold hands and feet. She laid stress on dietary changes – to include iron rich foods such as green leafy vegetables, jaggery, meat, lentils, nuts, iron supplement, diet rich in iron and Vitamin B12.
• Poster Making Competition to Celebrate Posha Maah – 28 September 2024
To celebrate Poshan Maah, a poster making competition was organized to raise awareness among students on the importance of iron rich nutrition and health to eradicate anaemia while encouraging creativity and artistic impression.
• Group Discussion on Anaemia – 30 September 2024
To develop critical thinking and communication skills, a group discussion session was held on Anaemia to celebrate Poshan Maah.
One Day Workshop on Traditional Rangoli Making – 23 August 2024
Rangoli is a traditional Indian art form in which intricate patterns are created on the ground using materials such as coloured powder, rice, flower petals or grains. Even today rangoli remains a vibrant tradition that brings communities together during celebrations. It represents regional identity, religious beliefs and an appreciation for symmetry and creativity.
Inter Class Flameless Cooking Competition – 22 August 2024
An Inter Class Flameless Cooking Competition was organized which focused on preparing healthy yet tasty dishes. Students from different streams showcased their culinary skills and innovative recipes. Participants prepared a variety of dishes ranging from salads to smoothies to traditional and fusion meals using ingredients that emphasized nutrition, hygiene and presentation.

Candle Making Competition – 3rd April 2024

An inter class Candle Making competition was organized in the college. This saw a huge participation among the students, who prepared candles from scratch with diverse materials having assorted designs, textures, hues and patterns. The students were well appreciated by the management members and applauded for their beautiful and admirable work.
Food Feast – 22nd March 2024

Institution’s Innovation Council in collaboration with Department of Home Science held a Food Feast in the college premises. The event aimed to showcase culinary talents, promote innovative cooking techniques, and raise awareness about nutrition and healthy eating habits among the participants. The students prepared and displayed a diverse array of dishes. The menu featured a wide variety of cuisines, ranging from traditional to contemporary, highlighting the culinary diversity and creativity of the participants. Principal Prof.(Dr.) Pooja Prashar and faculty members were invited to sample the dishes prepared by the participants and provided feedback on taste, presentation and the experience. This interactive element encouraged collaboration and exchange of culinary ideas among the participants and helped foster a sense of community within the institution.
Book Exhibition – 29th February 2024

A book exhibition was organized by the Library Committee under the guidance of IPAC in collaboration with Kalyani Publishers. It featured a comprehensive collection of book, catering to the academic needs and interests of the students. The event aimed to encourage reading habits, facilitate academic exploration, and foster a culture of continuous learning within the college community, and facilitated a platform for students, faculty members, and representatives from Kalyani Publishers to interact, exchange ideas, and build professional connections. The book exhibition received an overwhelmingly positive response from the college community.
Five Day FDP – Workshop on Design Thinking, Critical Thinking and Innovative Design -
20th February 2024

A workshop on Design Thinking, Critical Thinking and Innovation Design was organized in association with Institution Innovation Council. The theme of the workshop was Candle Making. The expert, Mrs. Money Luthra has been actively involved in this industry and has been a successful entrepreneur. She demonstrated several wax varieties, including paraffin, palm, soy (an eco-friendly and sustainable product) and beeswax (a natural wax that has a pleasant smell), all of which are essential in creating candles. She displayed candle varieties including taper candles, votive candles, novelty candles, pillar candles, and tea lights with a demonstration of the pouring, rolling, dipping, and moulding processes used in candle making. Since there has been a rise in the demand for eco friendly candles in the recent years, the goals of the workshop were to give practical training in various aspects of Candle Making and to provide a platform for entrepreneurship learning and development.
Budget Friendly Cooking Competition – 14th February 2024

A budget-friendly cooking competition was organized by the Home Science Department in collaboration with Institution Innovation Council. With 45 students displaying culinary their flair, the event featured modern kitchen amenities and diverse ingredients. The competition saw creativity flourish and reach new heights as the participants used unconventional and out of the box elements like edible flowers in their recipes. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Pooja Prashar, the special guest, evaluated dishes on presentation, taste, and execution, commending top performers for their flavour balance and visual appeal.
Basant Panchmi Celebrations – 14th February 2024

The holy festival of Basant Panchmi was celebrated in the college with full bloom and liveliness. The Goddess Sarasvati was worshipped, and the sacred ‘Sarasvati Vandana’ was sung. Afterwards, the revered Prasad was distributed amongst the students and the staff and the administration members. The Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Pooja Prashar graced the occasion with her presence. The college premises were bedecked with vibrant yellow coloured flowers, kites and resplendent decorations. The students also flew kites to enliven the age old yearly tradition of the festival as a mark of the advent of the Spring season.
FOOD FIESTA – 7th February 2024

Department of Home Science organized an event to give platform to the students to showcase their idea with support of IIC. At their food stand, the students offered a delicious selection of food dishes that were cooked by the students themselves. A platform was provided by the department to showcase food dishes that they had prepared themselves, encouraging culinary skills.
World Millets Day – 12st December 2023

World Millets Day is observed annually to raise awareness about the importance of millets. The Department in collaboration with NCC, Fine Arts and Jalandhar Welfare Society organised an awareness rally by the students to create awareness among other students and local residents about the importance of various millets such as Jowar, Bajra, Ragi etc so that they can be a part of our daily diet.
Seminar on National Entrepreneurship Day – 9th November 2023

A one day Seminar on National Entrepreneurship Day was organized in the college. The resource person of the seminar was Dietician Sandeep Kamal, who is a therapeutic Nutritionist & Health wellness professional. She guided and chaperoned the students about the vast and wide entrepreneurship opportunities which are evolving and emerging today in the domain of Nutrition, thereby adding to the future career options for the students.
Seminar on Self Employment skills – 25th October 2023

A Seminar on Self Employment skills was organized in Collaboration with Municipal Corporation. The resource person of the session was Dr. Nirmal Kaur, Assistant Project Officer, Municipal Corporation Jalandhar. She guided the students of Final year about the project regarding chocolate making and phulkari which has been granted to Municipal Corporation under National Livelihood Mission. She also enlightened the students about the importance of participating in this project which will help them to learn skill as well as work as self help groups, which are eligible for loans to start their own business after training.
Talent Hunt – 15th September 2023

An Inter class Rangoli Competition was organized for the students, during which the students appeared to be eager and enthusiastic and made beautiful Rangoli patterns on the floor using colourful rice, flowers, coloured sand and Rangoli colours and paints. The students were appreciated for their participation by the management members too.

Group Discussion – 1st September 2023

Nutritional Awareness week is an annual Nutrition event of great importance, celebrated from 1st September to 7th September every year, and is commemorated to raise public awareness of the importance of Nutrition. On the first day of the Nutritional Awareness week, a Group Discussion was organized on the topic “Should fast food be banned” to bring the students together on a common platform, so that they could not only share their ideas, but also understand and enhance their learning by absorbing thoughts of others. All the students contributed to the same with a whole hearted participation.
Poster Making – 2nd September 2023

Posters are a highly effective means of advertising as they are a visual medium that can quickly capture the attention of a target audience, convey key information and leave a lasting impression. For students, poster making is a potent way to draw and maintain their attention towards the concerned topics. On the second day of the Nutritional Awareness week, a Poster Making competition was organized for the students on the topic ‘Anemia’, a condition in which the blood doesn't have enough healthy red blood cells and is substantially common these days. All the students profoundly went in for the same.
Inter Class Quiz Competition – 4th September 2023

To encourage the students to read and learn, boost their confidence, bring out their enthusiastic and competitive side, and further test their knowledge and awareness on Nutrition, an Inter class quiz competition was organized on the fourth day of the Nutritional Awareness week, which showcased an active and energetic engagement of all the students from various classes.

Nutrition Fiesta, an Innovative cooking competition was organized to provide a platform for the students to foster their creativity. The students had an opportunity to showcase their culinary expertise in creating a recipe. Students prepared a variety of food items including vegetable salads, sandwiches, shakes, smoothies and snacks.
Guest Lecture – 8th September 2023

As the last event for the Nutritional Awareness week, a Guest Lecture by Dietician Dipika Vermani was organized in the college. The Guest Lecture, was on Balanced Diet, and it educated the students on what a Balanced Diet is, its scientific definition, importance, benefits and how a balanced diet chart looks like. A balanced diet, specifically in current times, is the need of the hour and is a topic everyone needs to be educated about.
Workshop on Nail Art – 24th August 2023

Nail Art is a wonderful and sublime way to exhibit creativity and style, and is one such art that allows one to showcase one’s personality right at one’s fingertips. It involves decorating finger nails with various patterns, colours and embellishments. On 24th August, 2023, a workshop was organized in which Ms. Daljeet Kaur, Assistant Professor, department of Cosmetology demonstrated different steps, types and techniques involved in nail art.

International Webinar on the topic 'To Eat is a Necessity, But to Eat Intelligently is An Art' - 25 April, 2023

An International Webinar was organized by the Department of Home Science of PCM S.D. College for Women on the topic. “To Eat is a Necessity, But to Eat Intelligently is An Art.” Ms. Angelpreet Kaur Dietary Supervisor Bruyere Continuing Care Hospital Canada was the Recourse person of the webinar. She said that generally we care for unhealthy food due to their taste and salivary response but there should be right balance between healthy and unhealthy food. We should be mindful about eating- what where and how? So careful selection between foods is very important. She also explained about mindful eating laying stress on the Quote “I Don’t” instead of “I Can’t”. Various healthy substitutes in diet like to frozen yoghurt instead of ice cream, spinach or beetroot puris and so on, can be added for healthy eating.

National Webinar on the topic of 'Millets for Health and Happiness' - 11 April 2023

A National Webinar was organized by the Department of Home Science of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar on the topic of 'Millets for Health and Happiness' Chef Meghana Shukla, Internationally renowned millet cooking expert & advisor, Indore, Madhya Pradesh was the resource person of the webinar. At the outset, Mrs Manmeet Kaur , Head, Department of the Home Science introduced the chief guest to the participants of the webinar and also familiarized the audience with the topic. Chef Meghana Shukla in her speech spoke on the production and consumption of millets which is highly nutritious and eco-friendly grains. She further said that these grains help in preventing diseases such as obesity, diabetes, arthritis, cancer and so on which causes due to the imbalanced nutritious food. Consuming millets also provide self-stability and good health. This year is considered as International Year for Millets with the theme to produce more such grains and use it to improve the gut microbial of the people.
Nutritional Quiz - 6 April 2023

Knowing nutrition fact can make a big difference to our health in the long run. To asses knowledge of basic nutrition, nutritional quiz was organized by the department which helped in observing how well students understood nutrition.
Basant panchami Celebration - 25th January 2023

Holy festival of Basant Panchami was celebrated in the college with full bloom and liveliness. Goddess Saraswati was worshipped and the sacred Saraswati Vandana was recited. Afterwords revered prasad was distributed among the students and staff members.
Food Fest - 11th and 12th October 2022

Earn while learn program provides opportunities to the students to earn while they are learning. Its also gives students hands on experience and confidence there by preparing them better for taking up jobs in future. A 2 day food fest was organized by the department of Home Science on 11th and 12th October 2022 under the aegis of ‘ Earn While You Learn’. Various stalls such as golgappa, bhelpuri, chocoball, plum punch, cutlets were provided at nominal prices. Here it is worth mentioning that delicious foods were prepared by the students themselves.
Talent Hunt - 30 September 2022

Talent is a flower, you have to fully tend to it if you want something beautiful. It is truly believed that every person is born with a talent. Keeping this in mind the department organized an inter class Talent Hunt competition to nurture talent. Students showcased their talent by creating beautiful designs of Rangoli using materials like saw dust, rice, suji, salt. This competition proved to be a good hidden talent.

Rashtriya Poshan Mah Sep 2022 was celebrated whole heartedly in the college. To commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India's Freedom as Azadi Ka Mahostsav, an Inter class Rangoli making competition was organised for the students on 21st December, 2021, in which students were seen well loaded with the pious spirit of Nationalism, and they made beautiful Rangoli patterns on the floor using colourful rice, flowers, coloured sand and paints. The honourable members of the Managing Committee and the worthy Principal of the college Dr. (Mrs.) Pooja Prashar appreciated the students for their participation.

The ‘Rashtriya Poshan Mah’, or the National month of Nutrition, September, 2021, was celebrated whole heartedly and healthily in the college. Guest lectures by Dr. Sushma Sharma were conducted, who educated students on the importance of good health and nutrition. Also organized were Yoga and Meditation sessions, quizzes on health and nutrition and a healthy food cooking contest, all of which witnessed an immense involvement and participation of the students.
